Q1: What is Preventative Maintenance and why is it important?
A1: Preventive maintenance = $avings! Preventative Maintenance Agreements (PMAs) are agreements between you and your Air Control Central quality contractor
for scheduled inspections and maintenance of your heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC) and/or refrigeration system(s). PMAs are generally scheduled semi-annually to maintain
peak efficiency, prevent utility overpayment, and avert system failures through predictive maintenance that can help extend the life of your HVAC system. All of which
add up to cost savings for you.
PMAs usually consist of Fall and Spring scheduled sessions for an Air Control Central service technician to go through your entire HVAC system preparing it for the
upcoming season in a proactive approach before system failure and prior to overpaying your utility company.
Q2: Why is professional installation important?
A2: Air Control Central has a team of highly-trained, licensed technicians who will ensure that your system is fully operational before they leave your home or business.
A properly installed unit helps to:
- Ensure that comfort levels are met
- Ensure equipment runs to manufacturers' specifications
- Reduce on-going service costs
- Extend the life of the unit
- Ensure the highest safety standards are met
Don't take a chance when it comes to your safety. Our technicians are highly-trained, qualified professionals who receive some of the most up-to-date training in the industry.
They will ensure your system is running safely and efficiently.
Q3: What happens when I replace my old heating and/or cooling system?
A3: To install the most efficient HVAC system in your business (or home), a detailed inspection should first be performed by your Air Control Central technician.
The inspection may include, the inspection of your business or home's ductwork, insulation, refrigerant piping, electrical service, wiring, thermostat, condensate piping,
flue piping, flue terminations, chimney liner, slabs, filter, driers, registers, grills, drain pans and evaporator coil.
Q4: How long will my new heating and/or air conditioning system last?
A4: Maintenance and service play a key role in the lifecycle of a heating or air conditioning system. If all recommended maintenance and service actions are taken,
an air conditioner can last 12 to 15 years and a gas furnace 15 to 20 years.
Q5: What is covered in my Service Agreement?
A5: There are many different types of HVAC equipment. A typical preventative maintenance visit will include a complete systems function and safety inspection, including filter and belt service.
For Air Conditioning systems:
- Indoor and outdoor coils are cleaned as required
- Condensate drain lines are inspected for restrictions
- Refrigerant levels are checked, and appropriate action taken if any leaks are discovered
For Heating systems, which can develop cracks in the heat-exchanger and sooting in the combustion system - inspection and cleaning is performed. Also air/fuel mixtures are adjusted to maximize combustion efficiencies and prevent the formation of deadly carbon monoxide.
Q6: What are Air Control Central's service rates?
A6: Air Control Central's service rates* are:
- Hourly Rate: $85 (CDN)
- Truck Charge: $40 (CDN)
* Rates are for service contract customers
Q7: I'm not sure what refrigeration system is right for my business. What can I do?
A7: Commercial refrigeration systems include refrigerated and freezer display cases, walk-ins, wall-sized cases and islands, plug-in cabinets and more. The proper refrigeration solution is essential to preserving freshness,
ensuring safety and enhancing the appearance of foods and beverages. The technicians at Air Control Central can determine and install the ideal refrigeration and/or freezing solution for your business.

Q8: What can I do before calling someone to service my system?
A8: HVAC systems are complicated networks of machinery that should be serviced by a certified and licensed professional from Air Control Central. However, if your HVAC system seems
to be malfunctioning, you can try a few basic steps which may correct your problem, prior to calling an HVAC and refrigeration professional. If you do not feel comfortable performing any of these tasks, don't hesitate to call Air Control Central and we'll be happy to assist.
- Make sure your unit's power switch is in the ON position (if applicable).
- Open supply and return vents and make sure they are unobstructed.
- Check the settings on your thermostat. If applicable, change the batteries for your thermostat display screen.
- Make sure the system switch is on the appropriate COOL or HEAT setting.
Q9: Should I change my indoor coil?
A9: It is generally a good idea to replace the indoor coil if you are also replacing your air conditioner. There is a correlation between the efficiency of your
heating or cooling system and the performance of the indoor coil and changing out the current indoor coil for a new one may be critical to optimizing the performance,
the efficiency and the savings potential of your new system.
Q10: Should I be concerned about indoor air quality?
A10: According to Environment Canada, air pollution is not only an outdoor problem. The air indoors, at home and in your workplace can also be polluted, and in some
cases be more polluted than outside. Indoor air quality is particularly important since, on average, Canadians spend most of their time indoors.
Air Control Central uses quality ventilation products that are installed by skilled professionals to help reduce air pollutants, humidity and other issues to improve the
health and comfort of everyone in your home or business.
Q11: What can be done to control humidity levels in my business or home?
A11: Humidity levels can be reduced by using a variable-speed furnace as part of your HVAC system. Variable speed units run longer, at lower speeds, allowing air to
constantly circulate against the cooling coil and remove more moisture.
Variable-speed motors also use less electricity than regular motors, reducing your energy costs.
Q12: Is there a warrenty on product installations?
A12: Yes. All product installations are warrantied for one year plus standard manufacturers warranties. Extended warranties are available through Air Control Central. Please speak with your
Air Control Central service technician, or contact Air Control Central regarding extended warrenties.
